Ron,

Need your advice on paint and primer ASAP please! Guys started scraping today. Thanks!

Hey Norm

My professional opinion and current practices are to scrape to bare wood where necessary and spot prime the bare wood with raw linseed oil and then a good oil based primer. Only where there is bare wood exposed. Follow this by cleaning the existing paint, then two coats of a quality latex paint (Benjamin Moore my favorite so far) if there is little original paint left after prep then I prefer to use oil based top coats on top of old painted wood. The oil based products respond more like the old paint and won’t peel away the underlying coats.

If after this if you experience peeling, it will most likely be localized and due to moisture pressure from within the house i. e. the outside wall of a bathroom or kitchen.

That’s what I would do 😉
